Linen Care Guide

Simple and easy, just like linen itself
Many people who are new to linen can feel intimidated about taking care of this seemingly delicate fabric, but rest assured, it is simple and easy to do! Linen is very durable, but does want to be treated with care. Read on to find out how to easily care for your precious pieces so you can enjoy them for a very long time.
Washing Linen

Washing Linen

1. First and foremost, read the care label of the item you are washing. The label will tell you the best approach for your particular piece. 2. In general, most linen can be hand washed or machine washed in low temperature water with a mild soap made for delicate items. Do not use bleach or other optical brighteners as these chemicals can damage your linen causing tears, holes or discoloration. 3. Separate linen items from other heavy items like jeans or towels and give them lots of space in the machine or water bowl. It is also good to button up your shirts and turn your items inside out. This reduces the chances of surface snags or tears. 4. If hand washing, make sure not to twist or wring the fabric, just soak for about 10 minutes and then gently swirl in the water. Rinse with water until soap is gone.
Drying Linen

Drying Linen

1. Some pre-washed, pre-shrunk linen, such as sheets, can be dried on low, however, never use high heat dry on any linen. This can cause shrinkage and damage to the fiber. 2. For clothing, immediately hanging on a padded hanger or laying flat to dry after washing is complete will yield the best results. Wrinkles and creases can be greatly minimized with this simple step. 3. If you are drying a hand washed item, you can use a towel to roll it in to absorb excess water before this step. Remember to not twist or wring the fabric. 4. Shake out your pieces to soften them up and remove any stiffness. Linen will naturally become softer with each wash.
